Yes, apparently Johnny’s in Russia! And he seems really happy about that, and I’m so happy for him to be somewhere that speaks so deeply to his soul and offers him joy and respite.
Meanwhile, let’s recap the week with some fabulous photos before we launch into the first of multiple sets of Sun Valley rehearsal picspam to which I see your eyes being drawn already....
He spent the past week in the Bay Area, and on Wednesday evening hosted a charity event at a private estate for the San Francisco 49ers Academy, which resulted in one of his best Instagram vids ever. Which is saying something, because as we all know his Instagram vids are to die for.

Sun Valley Rehearsal.
Part 1 of a Series.
Johnny at rehearsal is one of the best parts of seeing him perform live. The Sun Valley experience is especially unique, because the atmosphere is so casual. Near the rink is an outdoor eating area with an amazing buffet, and surrounding the rink are basic metal bleacher seats. Rehearsal usually begins about noon-ish, after public skating. So as people wander around the gorgeous grounds or bring the kids down for something to eat, champion skaters begin taking the ice without fanfare—suddenly they’re just there, doing extraordinary things in the middle of an ordinary Idaho afternoon.
And nearly always last to appear is Johnny.
He usually stops to chat first for a few minutes with the other show skaters, but even then the whispers immediately start to ripple through the people dotting the bleachers and on up into the buffet area: “OMG! Isn’t that Johnny Weir....?”
Yes. Yes, it is.
As you’ll see, Johnny is mostly very serious throughout rehearsal, very focused, very intense. The following photoset is from just the first seven minutes of his practice, beginning with his entrance and ending at the standard line of demarcation: the moment he’s warmed up enough to start peeling off layers.
And even just those first few minutes are simply beautiful.
